Don’t Use Google Drive Say Competitors (Yousendit and Tappin) For One Main Reason

Dont Use Google Drive Say Competitors (Yousendit and Tappin) For One Main ReasonAt the recent Zoholics conference, Zoho’s president said that Zoho is a service that will 100% never take your data and use it for any reason but to store the information and help you grow your business. Zoho won’t read or use your data for advertising or anything else.

In response to Google Drive (which I wrote about yesterday) , within the last 24 hours two executives from Yousendit and Tappin have pointed out Google’s term’s of service which state the right to:

“use, host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works, communicate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute” users’ content without their express permission.

Tappin’s President Chris Hopen (founder of Aventail (acquired by SonicWall) and co-inventor of SSL VPNs) explained that “while the TOS does reiterate that users retain the rights to their intellectual property, its cold comfort to users who have little insight into what Google and their partners are doing with their data, and little recourse to stop it.  In the world of business, such a provision could prove catastrophic if confidential or proprietary data makes its way into a personal cloud.”

Personally, Google’s TOS does not bother me and I use Google products just fine.

However, for some businesses, that want to be 100% sure that NO ONE but their explicitly authorized users is accessing their data, Google’s Terms of Service (TOS) could be problematic. What do you think?
